The seat of the Municipality of Markopoulo Mesogaias is the town of Markopoulou.
Markopoulo is one of the cities that had an intense arbanian element. Today it is a modern town that was helped by the works that took place in the area for the 2004 Olympics, as well as by the transport of the Hippodrome to the particular municipality.
The seaside part of the Municipality, 10 kilometers away, is Porto Rafti, one of the most beautiful settlements of Mesogeia with very good design, many detached houses and apartments used either for permanent or holiday residence. Porto Rafti has many dining venues and lively nightlife.
Within the boundaries of the Municipality of Markopoulo-Mesogaias lies the settlement of Vravrona, an important archaeological site with the most important monument dedicated to the goddess Artemis.
Also in the Bronze Age, Vravrona was one of 20 municipalities that united and created the Athenian state.
