The Municipality of Rafina-Pikermi belongs to the Peripheral Unity of Eastern Attica and its current form is due to the consolidation of the former municipality of Rafina and the Pikermi community, according to the Kallikratis Program.
The Municipality has an area of 41,84km2 and a population of 20,266 inhabitants, based on the latest census of 2011.
The seat of the Municipality of Rafina-Pikermi is the seaside town of Rafina, 25km from the center of Athens.
Rafina was a historic city. It was inhabited in prehistoric times. In fact, excavations have found the ruins of the prehistoric settlement of Assythari.
In 1922 with the Asia Minor Catastrophe, many refugees from the Triglias of Asia Minor settled in the area.
Today Rafina is one of the most important ports of Attica with great traffic especially in the summer months. It is densely populated with intense life. It has very good beaches with the most famous the Mariques.
