The Municipality of Penteli belongs to the Northern Sector of Athens of the Attica Region and consists of the municipal communities of Penteli, Nea Penteli and Melissia, according to the Kallikratis Program.
The Municipality has an area of ​​28,878km2 and a population of 34,934 inhabitants, based on the latest census of 2011.
The Municipality of Penteli is located at the southwest edge of the Penteli Mountain, formerly called Vrilissos.
The Pentelic Mountain is linked to ancient Greek civilization, since its quarries were the mining of the world-famous Pentelic marble, which is considered to be one of the best and cleanest in the world because of its particular whiteness. From this marble are built the most important monuments of the Athenian golden age, such as the Acropolis complex of Athens.
On the slopes of the mountain is the Penteli Monastery, built in 1578 by Saint Timothy and occupies a large area. To the east of the mountain there is the Holy Monastery of Pantokratoros Christou - Daou Pentelis - which hosts children with psychiatric problems. In the area of ​​Penteli is located the famous Doukissis Plakentias Tower.
