The Municipality of Zagora-Mouresi belongs to the Prefecture of Magnesia of the Region of Thessaly and its current form is due to the consolidation of the former municipalities of Zagora and Mouresi, according to the Kallikratis program.
The Municipality has an area of ​​150,54km2 and a population of 5,809 inhabitants, based on the latest census of 2011.

Historically in the place of Zagora there was the ancient city of Myra. During the Middle Ages there were two seaside villages with the same name. Because the residents were afraid of the pirate raids, they moved to the mountains and built the present town.
During the years of Ottoman rule, Zagora was a textile handicraft center. The products were sold in the markets of Istanbul, Thessaloniki and Smyrna.
