The Municipality of Vari-Voula-Vouliagmenis belongs to the Peripheral Unity of South Attica and its present form is due to the consolidation of the former municipalities of Vari, Voula, Vouliagmeni, according to the Kallikratis Program.
The Municipality has an area of 33,94km2 and a population of 48,399 inhabitants, based on the latest census of 2011.
The seat of the Municipality of Varis-Voulas-Vouliagmenis has been designated Voula.
Voula is 25 km south of the center of Athens and a large part of it is coastal.
It is believed that there was a settlement from the Neolithic Age (3,000 BC) in the area. Voula and Vouliagmeni were in ancient times the municipality of Aixonides Alon, ancient settlement-town and municipality of Kekorpida.
Excavations have been found, such as a 5th and 4th century BC building complex believed to be the ancient market.
Vouliagmeni is one of the most beautiful areas of Attica. In addition to the seaside sections of the Lemos and Crabs, the islet of Hydrusa belongs. Its name is probably from the homonymous lake in the area. Vouliagmeni belongs not only to the more expensive areas of Athens but also to Europe. It is built amphitheatrically, has very green and very nice organized beaches. It is one of the areas that especially in the summer months prefer swimming and nightlife. Many bathers choose the lake of Vouliagmeni for swimming all months of the year.
Vari, which is the coastal part of Varkiza, is 26 km away from the center of Athens. In antiquity, it corresponded to the ancient settlement-city and municipality of Erechthida, the Anargyurunto. Excavations have found findings from the geometric period, the cemetery of the Mycenaean times, etc.
During the Byzantine years many Arvanites settled in the area. The name Vari is probably of Arvanite origin.
The beachside area of Vari, Varkiza has an excellent and organized beach, many dining venues and nightlife.
