The Municipality of Trizinia-Methana belongs to the Regional Unity of the Islands of the Region of Attica and its current form is due to the unification of the former Municipalities of Trizinia and Methana, according to the Kallikratis Program.
The Municipality has an area of 241km2 and a population of 7,143 inhabitants, based on the latest census of 2011.
The seat of the Municipality of Troizina-Methana is Galatas.
The area of Troizinias is located southeast of the Argolic peninsula and borders with the municipalities of Kranidi, Ermioni, Methana and Epidavros.
Methana is also located in the southeastern part of the same peninsula. Methana is bordered around the sea and connected to the Peloponnese with a narrow lane.
The Methana region is particularly volcanic and belongs to the volcanic arc of the South Aegean with Milos, Santorini and Nisyros. The last volcanic activity was observed in 1700 and was submarine.
Because of the volcanoes, Methana has hot springs. Historical references exist from the traveler and geographer Pausanias who lived in the 2nd century AD.
Many finds have been found in the area, such as the prehistoric settlement of the Mycenaean Age (14th-13th century BC). Close to the seaside and picturesque Vathy, ruins of the Ancient Methans were discovered.
