The Municipality of Korinthos belongs to the Prefecture of Corinth in the Peloponnese and its current form is due to the consolidation of the former municipalities of Assou-Lecheio, Korinthia, Saronikos, Solegia and Teneas, according to the Kallikratis program.
The municipality has an area of 611,02 km2 and a population of 58,192 inhabitants, based on the latest census of 2011.
The seat of the Municipality of Corinth is Corinth.
Corinth is the economic, administrative and commercial center of the entire prefecture. Its geographical position has made it inhabited since prehistoric times. As it seems, the first inhabitants were pelasgian genders. Then we meet the Achaeans and Aeolians who took part in the Trojan War. Later, the Bachids were governed by Dorians, followed by Persians, Normans, Ottomans.
An important sight is the ancient Corinth and its surviving monuments prove the great acne of the area, especially in the 8th century BC. Another remarkable monument of the area is the Acrocorinth Castle.
