The Municipality of Kifissia belongs to the Northern Sector of Athens of the Attica Region, covers an area of 35.10km2 and has a population of 71.259 inhabitants, based on the latest census of 2011.
Kifissia is known for its luxury shopping market, dozens of dining venues, aesthetics, unique high-rise architecture houses and a turret. It also has a very good design.
The name Kifissia originated from ancient times, when this name had one of the 12 ancient cities of Attica.
At the entrance of Kifissia is located the well-known Villa Kazouli, built in 47 acres. The Villa was built in 1910 by the Egyptian businessman Nikolaos Kazoulis for a summer residence. The jewelery building was used during the German occupation, as an escort of the SS. In fact, Greek patriots were tortured there, and twelve of them were buried in her yard.
Kifissia, due to its very good climate, was chosen as a holiday resort. Herod Atticus had a holiday villa, so did the nobles of the Venetian domination later and then the Turkish rulers.
After the liberation, the wealthy Athenians chose Kifissia for their summer residence. Perhaps so far this suburb has excellent mansions. The great development of the area began when a line for the steam train was created.
There is also the Goulandris Natural History Museum. The emblem of the Municipality of Kifissia is the bust of Menandros, an ancient writer from Kifissia.
