Kasos is the southernmost island of Dodecanese and is located between Karpathos and Crete.
The first inhabitants of Kassos were the Phoenicians. Hence its name comes from the Phoenician word Kass meaning powder.
Kasos has been a major naval force since 1779. Proof of the French traveler Sabari describing it as a small naval state. When the 1821 Revolution broke out, Kasos had a remarkable fleet for the era. This was something that bothered the Sultan, and for this, when the Turks conquered the island in 1824, they killed most residents and burned Kassos almost completely. The Holocaust Holocaust anniversary is celebrated every June 7th. Kasos joined the rest of Greece in 1948.
Fry apart from the capital is the only port of the island. Beaches for swimming are the beach in Fry, Agios Konstantinos. Very nice beaches also have the neighboring island of Armathia.
