The Municipality of Ithaca belongs to the Region of the Ionian Islands, according to the Kallikratis program. Geographically, the island is located northeast of Kefalonia, from which it separates a narrow one 3-5 km wide.
The municipality has an area of ​​117.8km2 and a population of 3.231 inhabitants, based on the latest census of 2011.

Ithaca is known all over the world as the island of the handsome king Odysseus, who, according to the poet Homer, fought for 10 years in the Troyan war and so much needed to return to his beloved island.
First inhabited in the 3rd millennium BC and was conquered by Venetians, French and English. Ithaca along with other Ionian Islands joined with Greece in 1864.
Ithaca has two ports, Vathi and Piso Aetos. Vathy, built in a small cove, was rebuilt from the beginning, after the devastating earthquake of 1953. The small, green island of Lazaretto in the middle of the harbor offers an enchanting picture.
The island in the summer months doubles in population, having beautiful beaches combined with lush greenery. Among the most famous beaches are Filiatro, Gidaki, Aspros Gialos.
