The Municipality of Galatsi belongs to the North Sector of Athens of the Attica Region. It is located north of the City of Athens at the foot of the Tourkovounia Hill. It also borders North with the Municipality of Nea Ionia and east with the Municipalities Filothei and Palaio Psychiko.
The Municipality has an area of ​​4,026 km2 and a population of 59,345 inhabitants.
Prior to 1850, the area was uninhabited. Historically, first inhabitants are reported to have come from the Prefecture of Phocis. Later, workers and islanders from Naxos settled.
The area during the 20's had many Athenian cottages.
Today Galatsi is a densely populated area. Its trademark is the Veikos Alley that covers a vast area full of sports. It is one of the most important green areas of the Attica basin.
