The Municipality of Aspropyrgos belongs to the Peripheral Unit of Western Attica, it is 18 km away from the center of Athens and is one of the major prefectures of Attica. It has an area of 101.9km2 and has a population of 30,251, based on the latest census of 2011.
It borders with the Municipalities of Elefsina and Fili.
In the area, according to findings, there was a settlement dating back to the Neolithic period, while the geometric era was developed, as well as the early Archaic period. In the 5th century BC the inhabitants grew.
Previously the area was named Kalyvia Hassia and the name Aspropyrgos was given, as believed by a tower-like building, to the White Tower that existed on the Holy Road.
In the Aspropyrgos municipality there are industries, as well as the Aspropyrgos refineries that currently belong to the Hellenic Petroleum Group.
In the area of Aspropyrgos there is the Navy Academy and the School of Rescue and Fire Protection.
