The Spata-Artemida Municipality belongs to Regional Section Eastern Attica and the current form due to the consolidation of the former municipalities Spata and Artemis, under kallikratis plan. It borders on the Rafina-Pikermi Municipality, south with the Municipality of Markopoulo Mesogaias and west with the municipalities of Paiania and Pallini.
The Municipality has an area of 73,95 km2 and a population of 29,002 inhabitants, based on the latest census of 2011.
The seat of the Municipality of Spata-Artemida was designated Spata.
In Spata discovered the oldest prehistoric settlement (3.000pCh), while excavations have found Mycenaean Kingdom.
In ancient times, the area was a municipality of Ermia, an ancient settlement-city and municipality of Aegida. This was the homeland of the historian and philosopher, Xenophon.
In the 14th century, the Arvanites were installed in Spata, which was used for agricultural work by the family of Acagioli from Florence. The Arvanites were assimilated by native inhabitants.
During the years of Ottoman rule, the settlement of Spata began to be organized. In recent years, the Municipality has developed a lot due to the creation of the International Airport El. Venizelos in the area.
The Municipality of Artemida or Loutsa, as it is known, is a seaside settlement which was formerly mainly a holiday resort. Today he has many permanent residents.
The area was first inhabited during the Early Helladic period at 2,000 BC and even a settlement of this era has been discovered.
