The Municipality of Aigialia belongs to the Prefecture of Achaia Peloponnesus. It came from the consolidation of the former municipalities of Aigira, Aigio, Akrata, Diakopto, Erinheus and Sympolitia, based on the Kallikratis program.
The Municipality of Aegialia currently has 729,42km2 and a population of 49,872 inhabitants, according to the latest census of 2011.
The seat of the municipality is Aegio.
Aegio is built amphitheatrically and combines mountain and sea. The trademark of the city, which is the second largest in the prefecture, is the High Alonias square, which has tall trees and palm trees and a small pond. Also worth mentioning are the Archaeological Museum of Aegio, where finds dating from the Neolithic to the Late Geometric years are exhibited. The city's patron saint is Panagia Tripiti, considered to be miraculous.
One of the most beautiful villages in the municipality is Diakopto, where from there begins the Vouraikos gorge which continues for 20 km to Kalavrita. Next to it passes the Diakopto-Kalavrita railroad which offers a unique experience.
