The Municipality of Amarousiou (Marousi), belongs to the Northern Athens Section of the Attica Region and covers an area of ​​13,093km2 and has a population of 72,333 inhabitants, according to the last census of 2011.

This municipality has existed since antiquity under the name Athmonos and was one of the 12 municipalities founded by King Cekropas in Attica. The municipality intended to protect Athens from the invaders. She was worshiped by Goddess Artemis of the hunt and for her sake organized races.

In 1896 the area was considered an educational center of northern Attica, one where there were schools covering the adjacent areas. That year the first modern Olympic Games were organized and Marousioti Spyros Louis' victory in the marathon made Marousi famous. Besides, in the municipality of Maroussi there is also OAKA (Olympic Sports Center of Athens
There are also many pottery workshops in the municipality, one that pottery flourished in this area since antiquity.

In Maroussi there is also Mall Athens, the largest shopping center, as well as Golden Hall.
